MARK GARTLAND is a creative professional and digital evangelist. His extensive background in media and marketing make him uniquely qualified as visual consultant. Mark has won numerous awards for print, interactive and online projects he has created for Fortune 500 clients around the globe.
Mark has traveled extensively and worked for major companies from New York to Hong Kong. Projects include developing smart phone and Facebook apps; launching a cloud-based video platform for MINIMASH; designing online content for VILLAGE VOICE MEDIA; and creating branding and user experience for MALAYSIA AIRLINES. He has also lectured on design and journalism at San Francisco State University and on photography at Parsons School of Design.
2008 - 2011 (Oakland): Co-Founder and Visual Director of MiniMash, a cloud-based, online application that enables users to make and share short movies. Successfully managed all aspects of this online start-up including design and UX/UI, market research and strategy, product management and development as well as budget, talent acquisition, promotion and fundraising.

2002 - 2007 (Emeryville): Design Director for Village Voice Media and its seventeen national publications including the East Bay Express, an alternative tabloid and website focusing on the news and culture of the Bay Area. Successfully integrated the online publishing at www.villagevoicemedia.com and seventeen websites nationwide. Awards include: 2003 Society of Publication Designers award for cover design; 2004 and 2005 Maggie awards for Best Tabloid
2000 - 2001 (San Francisco): Design Director for Red Herring, a publication focusing on the business of technology. Under his direction Red Herring became the fastest growing magazine in the world. Successfully increased revenue, staff and frequency from monthly to bi-weekly and digital, direct-to-plate production in 2000. Successfully integrated branding for online publishing at www.redherring.com. Awards include: 2001 Society of Publication Designers award for cover design.
1997 - 1999 (Dusseldorf): Art Director for Wirtschaftswoche, the world's largest weekly german-language business publication. Directed successful launch of WIWO heute brand, the online publishing at www.wiwo.de. Achieved significant increase in circulation and revenue due to enhanced product performance.
1996 (Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur): Creative Consultant for several brands in this international media group, including; created branding for Malaysian Airlines interactive entertainment including Going Places magazine, games and audio-visual entertainment; redesign of Asiaweek magazine logo, editorial format and branding campaign.
1995 (Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipai): Creative Director for the launch of magazines in Hong Kong and China including Orient Beauty and Bo. Technical and creative consultant for Asia-Pacific editions of Elle, Elle Decoration, Woman's Day and Car&Driver.
1994 (Prague): Creative Director for the launch of Czech ELLE, the first eastern european edition of this international fashion magazine. Successfully managed set-up of office and computer systems, hiring and training of staff, color separators and printer, consignment of photographers as well as format, editorial structure and quality control to create the most successful premiere edition of Elle in history.
1990 - 1993 (New York City): Successfully redesigned American PHOTO to be repositioned as a high-impact general interest magazine devoted to showcasing the world's greatest photography. Successfully integrated digital publishing into the design and production in 1990. Awards include: 1993 ASME National Magazine Award for General Excellence, 1994 Society of Publication Designers (SPD) Award for Overall Design and 1993 SPD Award for Cover Design.
